November

Fall is here and we love this time of year!  We have started practicing words and literacy concepts in Small Groups, realizing that we can write sentences in Writer's Workshop and reading books in Guided Reading.  This month we are learning...

Reading:  Picture walk through a book before we read it, looking at beginning sounds, stopping at the      tricky part, and predicting during Shared Reading.  The words for this month are and, can, like, the, look, by, it, am, we, are, go, stop, to my, is, you.

Writing:  Write beginning sounds, using the word wall and writing words we know, spaces between words, starting with a capital letter and writing top to bottom.  We also work on a school-wide program called four-square writing once a month.  This month we are working on writing a simple sentence in each square with a picture to match.  Check out our writing pages hanging in the hall!

Math:  Finishing up patterns, teen numbers, estimation, numbers to 30 and representing numbers.

We do go outside for recess every day unless it is raining, snowing or the temperature is below 20-25 degrees.  Please help your children to remember a coat on colder days.  If your child needs to stay inside for a medical reason, send a note and they can go to the office during recess.  We can't leave them in the classroom without supervision.  If they are too sick to go outside, please keep them home until they are well.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  No school on November 23 - 25.
